There का प्रयोग उन वाक्यों में करते हैं जिनमें किसी वस्तु या व्यक्ति के कहीं होने या ना होने पर का बोध होता है। ऐसे वाक्यों को से शुरू करते हैं। इन वाक्यों में There का प्रयोग Introductory There के रूप में होता है। इसके अतिरिक्त There का प्रयोग Adverb के रूप में भी होता है। There का हिंदी में अर्थ ‘वहां’ या ‘उस स्थान पर’ होता है। जैसे;

एक राजा था।
There was a king.
एक बूढ़ा आदमी था।
There was an old man.
जंगल में दो शेर थे।
There were two lions in the forest.
राजा के महल में एक बड़ा दरवाजा था।
There was a big door in the king’s palace.
इस नगर में दो अस्पताल हैं।
There are two hospitals in the town.
इस पुरानी पुस्तक में 200 पन्ने हैं।
There are two hundred pages in this old book.
उसके कमरे में दो चूहे थे।
There were two rats in his room.
वह वहां कल गया।
He went there yesterday.
वहां मत जाओ।

Note: ऊपर दिए गए वाक्यों में There का प्रयोग हुआ है। वाक्य संख्या 1 से लेकर 7 तक There का प्रयोग introductory there के रूप में हुआ है। इन वाक्यों में देर का अपना कोई अर्थ नहीं है। लेकिन आखिरी के 2 वाक्यों में there का प्रयोग क्रिया विशेषण के रूप में हुआ है। इन वाक्यों में There का अर्थ ‘वहां या उस स्थान पर’ है।

Remember: जिन वाक्यों में कोई कर्ता (Subject) नहीं होता है। उन वाक्यों में There का प्रयोग Subject के रूप में होता है। इसके अलावा There का प्रयोग Adverb तथा Interjection के रूप में होता है।

There का प्रयोग वाक्यों में करने के नियम निम्नलिखित हैं;

Present Tense के वाक्यों में There के साथ is तथा are का प्रयोग करते हैं।
Past Tense के वाक्यों में There के साथ was तथा were का प्रयोग करते हैं।
Future Tense की वाक्यों में There के साथ will be का प्रयोग करते हैं।
There का Adverb के रूप में होने पर इसका प्रयोग मुख्य क्रिया के बाद होता है।

There का प्रयोग Subject के रूप में

There का प्रयोग Subject के रूप में तब किया जाता है जब किसी Sentence में किसी वस्तु या व्यक्ति का कहीं हो ना या ना होना पाया जाता है। ऐसे वाक्यों में there का प्रयोग Introductory there के रूप में होता है तथा उसका कोई अपना अर्थ नहीं होता है। There के साथ singular तथा plural verb का प्रयोग होता है।

इस गांव में एक सरकारी विद्यालय है।
There is a government school in this village.

जंगल में एक बड़ा हाथी है।
There was a big elephant in the forest.

हमारे शहर में दो अस्पताल हैं।
There are two hospitals in our city.

एक बार एक महान राजा था।
Once there was a great king.

उस कमरे में बिल्ली नहीं थी।

बाहर कोई है।

There का प्रयोग ऑब्जेक्ट के रूप में होने पर there को verb के अंत में रखते हैं। ऐसे वाक्यों में there का अर्थ वहां होता है।

1. राहुल वहां है।
Rahul is there.

Sohan is there.

3. हरा पेड़ वहां है।
The green tree is there.

4. लड़का वहां है।
The boy is there.

5. वहां एक घड़ी है।

There का प्रयोग Adverb के रूप में

There का प्रयोग क्रिया विशेषण के रूप में वाक्यों में किया जाता है ऐसे वाक्यों में there को Adverb of Place के नाम से जाना जाता है क्योंकि यह किसी स्थान या जगह को दर्शाता है। जैसे;

1. मैं वहां रहता हूं।
I live there.

2. तुम वहां नहीं जा सकते हो।
He can’t go there.

3. तुमने वहां किसे देखा?

Use of There as an Interjection

There का प्रयोग Interjection के रूप में उस स्थान पर ‘उस बिंदु पर’, ‘उस तथ्य पर’ या ‘उस बात पर’ के लिए किया जाता है। जैसे;

1. There! it’s done.
2. There! She isn’t agree.
3. There! That work has done.
4. There! I told you that she would not come.

Use of There in other sentences

1. इस प्रश्न में कोई गलती हो सकती है।
There maybe an error in this question.

2. हमारे समाज में अच्छे लोग होने चाहिए।
There should be good people in the society.

3. इसमें संदेह हो सकता है।
There might be doubt.

4. इस अस्पताल में एक अच्छा डॉक्टर होना चाहिए।
