Had का प्रयोग Primary Auxiliary Verbs के रूप में तथा Main Verb के रूप में Simple Past Tense तथा Past Perfect Tense में करते हैं। Had ‘Verb To Have’ की Past Form है।

जिन वाक्यों के अंत में पास था, रखता था, रखती थी, रखते थे आदि शब्द आते हैं, उनकी अंग्रेजी बनाते समय Had का प्रयोग किया जाता है। Had का प्रयोग Simple Past Tense तथा Past Perfect Tense में Primary Auxiliary Verb तथा Helping Verb के रूप में होता है। जैसे;

मेरे पास एक गाय थी। (I had a cow.)
वह एक कार रखता था। (He had a car.)
तुम्हारे पास एक घड़ी थी। (You had a watch.)
मैं दो छाते रखती थी। (I had two umbrellas.)
हमारे पास एक बड़ा घर था। (We had a big house.)
सीमा के पास पैसे नहीं थे। (Seema had not money.)
मैं ₹100 नहीं रखता था। (I had one thousand rupees.)

ऊपर दिए गए वाक्यों से व्यक्त होता है कि पहले इन लोगों के पास कोई वस्तु थी लेकिन अब नहीं है। ऐसे वाक्यों में had का प्रयोग होता है। ये वाक्य भूतकाल का समय व्यक्त प्रकट करते हैं।

They had उनके पास……..था।

Rule (2): Had का प्रयोग Singular तथा Plural Nouns के साथ किया जाता है।

Rajesh had (राजेश के पास……..था)
Seema had (सीमा के पास……..था।)
The boy had (लड़के के पास……..था।)
The girl had (लड़की के पास……..था।)
The man had (आदमी के पास……..था।)
The woman had (महिला के पास……..था।)

Had का प्रयोग affirmative Sentences में करने के लिए नीचे दिए गए नियमों को फॉलो करते हैं।

सबसे पहले Subject रखते हैं।
उसके बाद Had लगाते हैं।
Had के बाद noun रखते हैं।
अन्य शब्दों को इसके बाद रखते हैं।

Negative Sentences of Had

Had का प्रयोग नकारात्मक वाक्य में करने के लिए इसके बाद not जोड़ देते हैं। इसके अलावा did not have जोड़कर भी sentences को Negative बनाया जाता है।

Structure (1): Subject + had + not + noun + other words

Structure (2): Subject + did + not + have + noun + other words

Past Perfect Tense में Had का प्रयोग का प्रयोग सहायक क्रिया के रूप में करते हैं। जैसे;

Examples:

1. तुम्हारे जाने से पहले वह स्टेशन जा चुका था।

Use of Had in Passive Voice

Passive Voice में Had को Had been में बदल कर Passive Voice Helping Verb बनाकर सब्जेक्ट के बाद लगाते हैं। जैसे;

Examples:

Active: She had cleaned her room by 4 o’clock. (उसने 4 बजे तक अपना कमरा साफ कर लिया था।)
Passive: Her room had not been cleaned by her by 4 o’clock. (उसके द्वारा 4 बजे तक उसके कमरे की सफाई नहीं की गई थी।)

Active: I had done my work before you came. (तुम्हारे आने से पहले मैं अपना काम कर चुका था।)
Passive: My work had been done by me before you came. (आपके आने से पहले मेरा काम मेरे द्वारा किया जा चुका था।)

Active: The boy had scored 20 runs by 4 o’clock. (लड़का 4 बजे तक 20 रन बना चुका था।)
Passive: 20 runs had been scored by 4 o’clock by the boy.(लड़के द्वारा 4 बजे तक 20 रन बना लिए गए थे।)

Had का प्रयोग Direct and Indirect Speech में निम्न प्रकार से किया जाता है। जैसे;

Examples:

1. He said to me, “I had jumped into the well before you came.” (उसने मुझसे कहा, “मैं तुम्हारे आने से पहले कुएँ में कूद गया था।”)

Use of Had in Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Had का प्रयोग पास्ट परफेक्ट कंटीन्यूअस टेंस में Been लगाकर Helping Verb के रूप में होता है। जैसे;

1. तुम्हारे पिता 2 घंटे से काम कर रहे थे। Your father had been working for 2 hours.

2. रमेश 3 दिन से मेरे गांव नहीं आ रहा था। Ramesh had not been coming to my place for 3 days.

3. दो दिन से यहां बरसात नहीं हो रही थी। It had not been raining for two days.

4. क्या तुम 2:00 बजे से अपने कमरे में सो रहे थे? Had you been sleeping in your room since two o’clock?

5. मोहन यहां दो जनवरी से यहां काम नहीं कर रहा था। Mohan had not been working here since January.
