Negative Sentences in Hindi – Definition and Examples
Definition of Negative Sentences in Hindi: जिस वाक्य में किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा कोई कार्य ना किया जा रहा हो या वाक्य में किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु के बारे में नकारात्मक बयान दिया जा रहा हो, वह Negative Sentence कहलाता है। जैसे;
1. वह पढ़ाई नहीं करता है।
He does not study.
2. तुम मुझे नहीं जानते हो।
You don’t know me.
3. राधा आज खुश नहीं है।
Radha is not happy today.
4. रोहन के पास पैसा नहीं था।
Rohan had no money.
5. हमारे पिताजी कल कानपुर नहीं जाएंगे।
Our father will not go to Kanpur tomorrow.
6. हमारे पास कुछ नहीं है।
We had nothing.
7. दरवाजे पर कोई नहीं है।
There is nobody at the door.
8. कमरे में चोर नहीं है।
There is no thief in the room.
Note: उपर्युक्त वाक्यों में Helping Verb के बाद Not, No, Nobody, Nothing जैसे Negative Words का प्रयोग हुआ है। ये शब्द वाक्य को नकारात्मक बनाते हैं। अतः ऊपर दिए गए सभी वाक्य Negative Sentences के उदाहरण हैं।
Negative Sentences Rules in Hindi
Rule (1) – जब Affirmative Sentence में verb ‘to be’ के रूप is, am, are, या was, were तथा verb to have के रूप has, have तथा had का प्रयोग हो तो negative sentences बनाते समय इनके बाद not जोड़ते हैं; जैसे –
1. He is not a clever boy.
वह एक चालाक लड़का नहीं है।
2. You are not honest.
तुम ईमानदार नहीं हो।
3. I am not your manager.
मैं आपका प्रबंधक नहीं हूं।
4. He was not in the forest.
वह जंगल में नहीं था।
5. They were not my colleagues.
वे मेरे सहकर्मी नहीं थे।
6. She has not a good watch.
उसके पास एक अच्छी घड़ी नहीं है।
7. You have not four goats.
आपके पास चार बकरियां नहीं हैं।
8. The boy had not a long rope.
लड़के के पास लंबी रस्सी नहीं थी।
Rule (2) – जब Affirmative Sentences में Auxiliary Verbs (Helping Verbs) का प्रयोग हो, तो Negative Sentence बनाने के लिए auxiliary verb तथा main verb के बीच not लगाते हैं; जैसे –
1. मैं अस्पताल नहीं जाता हूं।
I do not go to hospital.
2. वे पतंग नहीं उड़ाते हैं।
They do not fly kites.
3. अभी रेलगाड़ी नहीं आई है।
The train has not come yet.
4. मेरे मित्र कानपुर नहीं गए हैं।
My friends have not gone to Kanpur.
5. वह पत्र नहीं लिख रहा है।
He is not writing a letter.
6. लड़के शोर नहीं कर रहे हैं।
The boys are not making a noise.
7. सैनिक बहादुरी से नहीं लड़ रहा था।
The soldier was not fighting bravely.
8. वे जंगल में नहीं भटक रहे थे।
They were not wandering in the forest.
9. मेरे आने से पहले माताजी खाना नहीं पका चुकी थीं। My mother had not cooked the food before I came.
10. दादा जी आज बाजार नहीं जाएंगे।
The grandfather will not go to market today.

Rule (3) – जब Affirmative Sentence में modal auxiliary verb का प्रयोग हो तो उसके बाद not लगाकर बात को नकारात्मक बनाते हैं। जैसे;
1. वह हमें नहीं पढ़ा सकता है।
He cannot teach us.
2. रोहन को वहां नहीं जाना चाहिए।
Rohan should not go there.
3. उसे अस्पताल में धूम्रपान नहीं करना चाहिए।
He must not smoke in the hospital.
4. आज बारिश नहीं हो सकती है।
It may not rain today.
5. रोहित कल बाजार ना जा सका।
Rohit could not go to market yesterday.
6. मैं कॉफी नहीं लेना चाहूंगा।
I would not like to have coffee.
7. वह पत्र नहीं लिखेगा।
He will not write a letter.
8. हम सुमित से नहीं मिलेंगे।
We shall not meet Sumit.
Rule (5) – Auxiliary ‘do/does/did’ के आगे not लगाकर Simple Present तथा Simple Past के affirmative sentence को negative बनाते हैं। Main verb की first form का प्रयोग किया जाता है; जैसे –
1. वह इतिहास नहीं पढ़ता है।
He does not study history.
2. वे यहां नहीं आते हैं।
They do not come here.
3. रोहन कल विद्यालय नहीं गया।
Rohan did not went to school yesterday.
4. मैंने यह बाइक 2 दिन पहले नहीं खरीदी।
I did not buy this bike 2 days ago.
Rule (5) – Interrogative Sentence को Negative Sentence बनाने के लिए सदैव Subject के बाद not बढ़ा देते हैं, जैसे-
1. क्या वह एक अच्छा आदमी नहीं है?
Is he not a good man?
2. क्या वह कड़ी मेहनत नहीं करती है?
Does she not work hard?
3. तुम्हारा भाई 2 घंटे से काम क्यों नहीं कर रहा है?
Why has your brother not been working for 2 hours?
4. रजत कल पैसे क्यों नहीं देगा?
Why will Rajat not give money tomorrow?
Rule (6). Imperative sentence को negative sentence बनाते समय verb से पहले do not या don’t लगा देते हैं; जैसे –
1. दरवाजा मत खोलो।
Do not open the door.
2. वहां मत जाओ।
Don’t go there.
3. यहां मत बैठो।
Don’t sit here.
4. कमरे में धूम्रपान मत करो।
Do not smoke in the room.

Structure – subject + do/does + not + first form of the verb + object + other words

1. राम कानपुर नहीं जाता है ।
Ram doesn’t go to kanpur.
2. सीता खाना नहीं पकाती है ।

Structure: Subject +is/am/are + not + first form of the verb + ing + object + other words

1. हम बाजार नहीं जा रहें है ।

3. मैं काम नहीं कर रहा हूं।
